This image was taken in November 2014. This salt lake is usually dry at this time of the year, but recent thunderstorms left a shallow covering of water that was like a mirror. There is a lot going on in this image. Besides the obvious rainbow, you can see a curtain of rain. There is also a shadow cast by the dense part of the cloud in the center.

Scenes like this amaze me – they last only a few moments and then they are gone. The wonder of nature.

Cape Leeuwin
Cape Leeuwin is the most southwest corner of Western Australia, where the Indian Ocean meets the Southern Ocean. The coastline is littered with countless rock formations and hidden beaches, like this one, just north of the Cape Leeuwin lighthouse.

Araluen Pool

Silent Remnant
As the moon comes up over the horizon, it bathes the desert in soft light, casting eerie shadows over golden sand. A warm breeze swirls between the dunes, scented ever so lightly with the smell of the land. Standing for millennia, these pinnacles bear witness to the long-running narrative of history. A silent remnant; yet if you listen with your heart, you can almost hear them whispering of a time long past.

Edge of The Miraculous
Recent thunderstorms in the Wheatbelt meant that some of the many salt lakes that dot the landscape have water in them. This was what I was hoping for as I made a mad dash out to Lake Brown recently.
After waiting a few years for the perfect conditions to eventuate, I was very happy to discover that my hunch was right. The temperature was around the 41C mark and the flies were present in their usual numbers, but it was worth the effort.

Dreamstones
There is a barren beauty in a desert landscape; almost other-worldly. The harshness of sand and rock. The tough and sturdy plants that eke out a living. One moment windy and chaotic; the next still and quiet. Such a diverse and interesting place to spend some time thinking, reflecting, and dreaming.
